In the summer of 2021, Veralee received a letter addressed to her mother from Royal Investment Properties, interested in a 20-acre parcel she owned near Carrolton, Missouri. Veralee was acting power-of-attorney for her ailing mother, who owned the parcel at the time, and it was her mother’s desire to sell the property before she passed away. They found, however, that the property was still in the name of Veralee’s great-grandmother, and the title had not been transferred properly through family ownership changes over three generations. As a result, when Veralee’s mother decided she wanted to sell, there was a defect with the title of the property, making the transfer of the property more emotional, stressful and difficult.
